Comments on the Telstra Pre-Game Entertainment at AFL Grand Final 2025.

Regarding the head line act- Snoop Dogg.
I’m sure no one would be surprised to hear that I am in full support of the AFL prioritising Australian performers for the Grand Final stage.
But what was somewhat unexpected and a complete turn off from Snoop’s performance on Saturday was the overwhelming American Stench all about the grounds. There were marching bands (Snoop a s drum major, baton in hand) and leggy cheerleaders. There were varsity jacket style costumes, and white gloves. There was its GrAnd Fainl Taime Baybie, GR8tness iz OhWN tha Laine. Lehts heer it from the FAns. Yeh ALL o’ YALL. GEeelong, I wannnna heRe you. BrizBane! LLowdeRR , meaayke suhhm nuoize.
As in all and every case of the Americanisation of Australian things, I am just a bit pissed off.
I am again struck by how blatant the true interest of whoever makes the decisions that whatever sells is what is best. I am struck again by how they think we are so stupid to believe that it is all for the love of the game.
Parading the retired players is not done in the spirit of pride but in the name of Toyota. Snoop Dogg’s performance is not in the celebration of Arts, Music, and Entertainment, it’s in the pursuit of ticket sales and American interest.
Do they think that we love the American aesthetic? Do they think we love the American Accent? Do they think we would prefer it if we could be teleported to a Friday Night Lights college football game hawt dawg in one hand and a gallon of diet cola in the other?
I don’t want the Super Bowl!
I want hot chips’n seagulls, I want Four’N Twenty, I want people I know, I want to sing along.
I want Aussie Rules Footy!
I get it. Football is expensive and you have to trade a word for a dollar. But it’s not always the worst thing to lower your budget and not stoop to buy Snoop.
If you stand for Australia, and stand for the little guy, and stand for a fair go, then hire Australian talent for your headline act. The way you actually use/spend your power, platform, and resources, says far more than your values declared in writing or spoken.
Put your money where your mouth is!
P.S. Love Baker Boy, Mike Brady, Jess Mauboy, and Vera Blue. I don’t care about Snoop Dogg. This rant is for the AFL/Tesltra/whoever it is x
